CHRISTMAS SHOPPING SPREE Every year, The Playground Kiwanis Club conducts a wonder-filled event we call "The Christmas Shopping Spree". The recipients of the event are local foster children and other disadvantaged children. This is our major service project. The bulk of our fund raising efforts are designed to support this project. The Annual Charity Family Fishing Tournament, The Santa Challenge (organized by our favorite Santa, Randy Tew, a fund raising contest among local businesses), a Charity Raffle and Auction, as well as charitable donations to the club are just some of our fund raising activities. Foster Children became our focus when we realized that other economically disadvantaged children's groups were well taken care of at Christmas by other civic minded organizations. Foster children, while not necessarily economically disadvantaged, were falling through the cracks. These children were sometimes left without any Christmas at all!! We teamed up with the Foster Children's Program to identify those children who needed help to celebrate the spirit of Christmas. We allocate between $100-$150 per child (ages 6-12) and take them on a shopping spree at the Fort Walton Beach WalMart. Based on the philosophy that "It is More blessed to give than to receive", the objective is to give them the opportunity to procure gifts for their siblings, foster parents, and other important people in their lives. Kiwanis volunteers accompany and guide the children in purchasing appropriate gifts. Many times, we have to remind the children to get something for themselves!! Each Foster Family or Foster Children's Facility is provided with a boxed Christmas dinner, assembled by caring WalMart staff. The meal includes a turkey, dressing, rolls, cranberry sauce, pie and other Christmas "goodies" that will feed the entire "family" for Christmas dinner.
BOY SCOUTS The Playground Kiwanis Club is the chartering organization for Troop #543, Boy Scouts of America in Fort Walton Beach. In the past, we have provided meeting and storage facilities for both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. We provide financial support, encouragement, and formal recognition of the premises and activities of scouting as a means of developing our youth to be productive citizens.

AKTION CLUB The Playground Kiwanis Club has partnered with the Niceville Kiwanis Club to charter and support this Kiwanis International sponsored activity. Modeled after a Kiwanis Club, the organization provides the mentally and physically challenged adult members of our society an avenue to focus their efforts in supporting their community. The club provides community service, leadership and social opportunities for adults living with disabilities. The Club meets at The Golden Corral restaurant, Mary Esther, the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 PM.
